One of Us

One of Us

Red in a sea of Black
Black empowered, Red a lowly servant.
Red tries to stand up,
Black pushes her back down.
Black makes Red feel useless.
Red is as important as Black,
They both just need to see that.
Red is one of them, not one among them.
Red sits down.
Black helps her stand back up.
One of us.

Charlotte in a sea of people
They control, Charlotte follows.
Charlotte tries to stand up,
They push her back down.
They make Charlotte feel stupid.
Charlotte is as important as them,
They both just need to realize that.
Charlotte is one of us, not one among us.
Charlotte sits down.
They help her stand back up.
One of us.

This a poem that i found one night when i was to awake to go to sleep and there was nothing else to do. personally, i interpret this poem to be about my brother and how he's bound by his disability, but thats just me.

  1. Hi, Sophia -

I like the poem - and interesting interpretation. I wonder if you feel like Red sometimes as well? I certainly have, searching for acceptance and understanding from the sidelines.
